Welcome to the website of the Northfield Community School's Middle School Counselor.á My name is Lisa Harvey and I am one of two guidance counselors that we have here at NCS.á Mr. Ryan Comunale and I work in conjunction with one another to serve the needs of all of the students here at our school.á I hae entered my second decade of experience as a middle school Guidance Counselor and was hired in 2004 by Northfield to serve the needs or our students.á My primary focus this year will be working with the students in ourámiddle school grades 5-8.á I am excited about serving your children's social and developmental needs.á If at anytime I can be of any assistance, please feel free to contact me at 407-4000 x 8520.á

Mainland Regional High School OPEN HOUSE
Mainland will host an OPEN HOUSE on Thursday January 29, 2015 at 6:30 PM in the MRHS Auditorium.
Current 8th grade students and their parents are invited to attend this event, which will provide an overview of everything Mainland has to offer, including course options and the 9th grade course selection process.
Tours of the building will also be provided.
Mainland Regional High School
The Guidance Counselors from Mainland Regional High School will meet with our eighth grade students and families February 5th and 6th, 2015 to facilitate the selection of their courses for 9th grade. Mrs. Harvey will meet with all eighth grade students, through the ELA classes, to review the process and each student was given the Program of Studies book as well as a course selection sheet. Parents are encouraged to attend the appointment with their child and the Mainland guidance counselor. A letter will be sent home with important dates and the child's appointment time. Please contact me if you have questions.

**The list of scheduled appointment times will be located in the middle school office and the guidance office if you need to double check your time. Flexibility of appointment times is limited so please try to accomodate your scheduled time. Thank you.**
High School Information - Open Houses and Presentations
Atlantic County Institute of Technoloy:
An Information Session will be held on October 21st at 7 pm in the Performing Arts Center at ACIT. During the Session they will explain in detail how to choose and apply to the Academy and Career Tech Programs. In addition teachers and students will be on hand to share their personal experiences.
A representative from ACIT will give a presentation to interested eighth grade students on November 5th during eighth grade ENCORE. Students must sign up with their ELA teacher.

ChARTer Tech:
An Information Session will be held on November 12th from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at the ChARTer Tech High School.
A representative from ChARTER Tech will give a presentation to interested eighth grade students sometime in November during eighth grade ENCORE. Date is pending, students will sign up with their ELA teacher.

Holy Spirit High School:
An Information Session will be held on October 23rd at 7:00 pm at the Holy Spirit High School.
A representative from
Holy Spirit will give a presentation to interested eighth grade students on November 5th during eighth grade ENCORE. Students must sign up with their ELA teacher.

St. Augustine's Preparatory School:
An open house will be held on November 7, 2014 on the campus of St. Augustine Prep, 611 Cedar Avenue, Richland NJ. Registration is 8:00 a.m. and the Entrance/Scholarship Exam is 8:30 a.m. for all interested students. For more information: 856-697-2600 ext. 112 or

Our Lady of Mercy Academy:
OLMA will hold a Shadow Day on October 9th from 8:00 am to 2:45 pm and an Open House will be held on November 7th from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Information is available on these events in the school counselor's office.
NEW! Concerns for the Counselor Box
Mrs. Harvey has just had two suggestion syle boxes installed in the middle school. One is placed outside of her office and there is one outside of the middle school office. The boxes are black and say "Concerns for the Counselor".  Students can place a sheet of paper with their concern(s) written on it and place it into the box for Mrs. Harvey to interevene. The notes may be anonymous or place both first and last name.
If you are interested in attending chARTer TECH next year, contact them as soon as possible to set up a shadowing experience and to receive information about the application process. Representatives from ChARTer Tech will meet with interested eighth graders during the month of October to share their knowledge of the school. I have information in my office and a link to their website is located to the right under "informative websites".
Atlantic County Institute of Technology Academy Programs
A representative from ACIT will meet with some of our interested students this year. ACIT has many academies catering to a wide range of interests including information technology, math, engineering & science, performing arts, health sciences, culinary arts and many more. There is a link to their website to the right under informative websites where you will find more information on what they have to offer.
An information session will be held at ACIT during October at their campus in Mays Landing. Check out their website for more information
Holy Spirit High School Open House and Placement Test

Holy Spirit High School

administers the High School Achievement Placement Test at Holy Spirit High School. This test assesses Verbal Skills, Reading Comprehension, Mathematics and Language.

Important Facts:

  1. This admission test is required of all students seeking admission to the Freshmen Class for Fall, 2014
  2. There is a $25.00 non-refundable fee involved in taking the test.
  3. There is no obligation implied by having taken the test.
  4. Students will need a # 2 pencil.

Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth
I am pleased to inform you that Northfield Middle School will be participating in Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY) academic talent search. We had over 75 students qualify this year! The purpose of the Talent Search is to identify, assess, and recognize the academic abilities of highly able students. To qualify for the Talent Search, seventh and eighth grade students, must score in the Advanced Proficient range in the LAL and/or Mathematics test of the New Jersey Assessment of Skills and Knowledge (NJ ASK). Qualifying students and their families were contacted and given information on this program. More information on CTY can be found by visiting their website:
